Hooray for Birthday Week: Day 7 - Botanical Builder

Yippeee, we made it to day 7 and today is my Birthday!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so much for all the blog love that you guys have shown me this week. It's made this week extra special!!

Today's card I actually made for myself. Now I know this sounds a little weird, because who actually make's cards for themselves, but it all started after a conversation I had with the hubby the other day.

We were in the car talking about my birthday coming up, when I suddenly couldn't work out how old I was going to be. After doing some very poor maths, I suddenly realised that I had told everybody I had turned 35 last year, when in fact I'm 35 this year?!?!? And so I had to make a card using this sentiment:

Of course if I am making a card for myself I'm going to use all my favorite colours too and so I picked out all the beautiful mints and aquas in our ink collections.

I was really pleased with how I got the two tone look on my numbers. I had tried inking straight from the pads, but the look was way too heavy and wet, so I decided to get out my trusty finger daubers and I sponged the colours directly onto the numbers and then stamped them.

Wow, that's it! a whole week of Birthday cards all finished and are now waiting for their new owner. Who is that lucky person who gets to keep all these cards, I hear you say. Well it honestly could be YOU!!

Hooray for Birthday Week: Day 6 - Little Letter Thinlits

Hooray for day 6 of my Birthday fun week. Today's post is just a quick one as my crazy crew had spent the whole day out fishing yesterday and so today the house needs a little bit of loving. Oh and after a week of card creating, I can't even begin to explain what state my craft room or The Closet as we call it, is in.

So for day 6 I have something that is super quick and easy to make using the Little Letter thinlits, which I hadn't used for a while:

It's funny how you use a certain item or stamp set over and over, until something shiny and new comes along and then it gets forgotten about. Well that's kinda what happened to these awesome little thinlits. I forgot how much fun they are.

With this card, I drew three lines with a pencil and then used my magnetic platform to line up the letters to spell HAPPY. It looks tricky (and would probably have been easier if I had an extra 'P') but it really wasn't too hard. I got them all done on my first attempt.

I used my aqua painter to water colour a piece of Shimmery White which I then stuck underneath. Finished with a sentiment and a little bling and that was it.

Hooray for Birthday Week: Day 5 - Birthday Blooms

I've finally given in and had my first hot cross bun of the season. I know we should really wait until Easter Sunday but to be fair, they have been in the shops since New Years Eve and I've done a great job waiting this long!

With the fun of Easter setting in and the long weekend starting, it reminds me that my birthday is in three days and that's how long you have left to get in on the birthday fun. Now, those who are on my mailing list (which you can join by adding your email address to the 'Receive My Newsletter' link on the right) will have already seen this card as I used it as my monthly Spotlight card, but it was far to gorgeous to not share it with all of you.

This is a Tri-Fold card and opens out to be pretty big, but when folded flat it still fit's in a standard size envelope. AusPost will thank you for that.

I stamped the flower from the Birthday Blooms stamp set in Basic Black on white Shimmery paper and then used my aqua painter to colour it in.

I think my water colouring skills have really improved and this is my best attempt so far. Through a lot of trial and error, I think colouring with the light colours and building them up is so much easier.

Well, the family and I are off to do a spot of river fishing this morning. We never catch anything, but the kids love having a go and the fish love eating all the bait that falls in!
