Just Add Ink #570 - Hats Off

Ok so I know with lockdown, it's tricky to keep track of the days, but seriously how did Fathers day sneak up on us? And also, while I'm thinking about it, September!!

So while I found a present at the petrol station (he loves chocolate so it's all good!) I realised I was going to need to make a card for the kids. Now I could get them to make the card, but I've only just cleaned up my craft room and didn't feel like letting those hooligans in there.

Also, I saw the perfect colour challenge happening over at Just Add Ink and so I decided to run with that.

Coastal Cabana is my all time favourite SU colour (alongside Crumb Cake obviously) so I knew this challenge would be perfect.

So, I finally got to play with the Hat's Off bundle which is awesome. Great set for boys, young and old and perfect for my fathers day card.

It's a it tricky to see, but the blueish strip on top of the lack strip is actually a piece of rushed silver cardstock, which is in the holiday catalogue. It's shinier in real life but hard to capture in a photo. I find it hard to create mens cards without all the sparkly so using some foil cardstock is a good alternative.

Right, time to get this card written up and wrap the chocolate. At least I didn't eat it before he gets it this year.

Watercolours in Cornwall - By the Bay Sale-a-Bration

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks the By the Bay stamp set reminds them of the houses and coastlines on the Cornish coast in the England. It brings to mind, long sunny days, eating strawberries and ice cream. I spent lots of time in Cornwall and really hope to take the children there when we go back to visit again soon.

The pretty little house in this set, just called to me to water colour it and I wanted to use this card for a man or a women so I left the colours pretty neutral for that reason.

I wanted to keep this card as simple as possible and I thought the little sentiment was just perfect and all I needed to add to finish it off.

So many of the Sale-a-Bration goodies are selling out so don't hesitate, place an order and grab your favorites today!

Just Add Ink #375 Sketch Challenge - Message in a Bottle

Not only is today Friday but it is finally the 1st day of Spring and the warmer weather really can't come quickly enough for me let me tell you. And if that wasn't enough reason to get all excited then how about the fact it's also my week for JAI Blog and we have a fund sketch to share:

http://just-add-ink.blogspot.com/2017/09/just-add-ink-375sketch.html

Now anyone with school age children might instantly think this sketch looks familiar... maybe a bit like a Poker ball?!?!? I know that's what my boys said when they saw it. And as tempted as I was to make a Pokermon card I decided to make something else;

I have to admit, male cards are not my strong point and thats not to say I'm great at girly cards either but I do like to add bling and sparkle to cards. However this card was lots of fun to make and I loved having to think outside the box.

I added some embossing paste clouds in my sky and the water was made using the swirly framelit from the Sweet Cupcakes set. I love using thinlits and framelits in different ways, and in this case it gave me the perfect effect.

Well thats all from me this week. Make sure you pop over and visit the JAI crew and I hope everyone enjoys the first day of spring and fingers crossed for lots of warm sunny days to come.

Just Add Ink #367 Colour Challenge - One Wild Ride

Hip hip hooray it's Friday or as we like to call it Funday!! And to kick start the day, myself and the girls at Just Add Ink have a colour challenge to get our creative juices flowing.

http://just-add-ink.blogspot.com/2017/07/just-add-ink-367colour.html
I have to admit these colours were a little tricky. It really was a challenge this week, but I put my thinking cap on and here is my card for this week:

I decided to go down the Male route for my card this week and dug out my favorite set One Wild Ride. Every crafter should have this stamp in their collection. It's perfect for all ages and suitable for every man in your life.

I found my Lemon Lime Twist ink pad was super juicy (which can happen with new ink) and I wasn't getting a crisp enough image. The ink was soaking into all the fine lines. Now there are a few ways that you can make you ink pads less juicy. I usually blot it up with some kitchen roll and then use the back of a spoon to massage the ink around the pad. But today I didn't want to get up and go in hunt for everything so I went to my next tip, which is to put the ink on the stamp with a finger dauber. This means you can be light or as heavy as you want to and don't end up with that inky, blotchy look.

We have a few male birthday's coming up in our household this month, so I think I'll be making up this card a few more times yet!!

Now it's time for you to go, check out what the other super talented girls have done with these challenging colours.

Missing Mojo Monday - Jar of Love

Welcome back to another Missing Mojo Monday Post.

So while the mojo is on holiday for an extended amount of time I obviously still have to get my craft on, even when I don't feel like it. I still have Design Team commitments and card classes to get organized for, so what do you do at these times. Well this is when I start digging through my current and old catalogues and look for inspiration or cards to CASE. CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything.

So the card on the left is from the Stampin' Up! catalogue and my card is the one below:

My Jar of Love set really hasn't seen as much love as it should have and I'm so glad to see it carry over to the new annual catalogue. So when I saw this little fishy card and thought, well that looks easy enough to CASE and even though I had planned to copy it completely, I still couldn't help changing it up just little.

So even thought my card is almost the same I don't find leaving white space that easy so on my card I embossed my background with our fantastic brick wall folder. I really love the effect that little folder has on a card.

And so there you had it. Another card made, just in time for a class too and do you know what? This was the card they loved most of all. Sometimes a smart design is better then a fancy one.

So Missing Mojo tip number 2 - Pull out your old catties and start having a look through. Maybe you can find a design that you like which you can change up the stamps sets or maybe you have the stamps and just want to CASE the original design. Either way you gotta just get creating!!
