Can You Case It #135 Back to School Challenge - Project Life

It's time for another challenge at Can You Case It and this week we are all about going back to school.
I think it's the end of the summer in the States and the new school year is starting for them, but while here in Australia our school year is still happening and I wasn't really sure what to do for this challenge. Then I realised I still hadn't scrapped any photo's of my middle child, Mr.6 going off to big school:

Gosh isn't he a cutie!! I used the All Year Long card collection and matching embellishment kit for my layout and I just love how it turned out.

Some of the cards were originally 4x4 but some of the ones I wanted to use were actually 4x6 and so

I just cut those down to fit into the pockets. Don't be afraid to mix things up and think outside the box. I'm also known for using washi tape to stick two 3x2 cards together to make a 6x4. It's all about making PL fit your needs.

Now another question I'm often asked is, "Do I stick my stickers straight onto the photo?" and the answer is Yes I do. PL is all about taking as much or as little time on a layout as you want and I feel sticking my embellishments straight on the photo is a perfect fit for me.

I really do love the matching embellishment kits that each card collection has. The kits has everything you could need for your layout, with stickers, washi tape, wooden elements, alphas and even a coordinating stamp set. You really just need to add you photos and you are done!!

Well that's it for me today. Make sure you pop over and check out what the est of the DT's have come up with this week and I hope you take part yourself!!

Project Life - Thoughtful Branches

I've been finding some time this month to get back into my Project Life and getting photos printed from my phone and computer, which I really believe is the most important part of the whole PL process.

For me, it's not the cards or the journaling or even all the pretties (though I do love that bit) but it's about getting those photo into albums. I really do have a nervous tick every time my computer or phone seems to not be responding like it should. A shudder runs up my spine and I suddenly think "Oh no, when was the last time I backed up my photos!!

So I plan to do a couple of pages each week to keep up to date and on track. I've also recently moved all my completed albums into the lounge and now the kids love to sit and look through them regularly.
Today's layout is actually not using a Project Life kit at all. Shocking I know!! But I thought today I would use our Thoughtful Branches bundle (which is only available until 31st August, so click HERE to get yours) to make my own PL cards to slip into the pockets. Anything goes when it comes to Project Life, there really are no rules!!

These photos are ones that I took on my trip back to England last year. I love being in the countryside and I took these photos when walking along the Cuckoo Trail.

I saw a beautiful card on the Artisan Design Team blog hop by Connie Collins, from Constantly Stampin, and I just loved the the design that she had used. When I was putting my photos together, her design popped into my head and so I decided to use it as one of my PL cards.

I then decided to carry on that theme for my other 6x4 card and used the "Sunshine" die from the Sunshine Wishes framelit set.

I'm not big on adding too much to my pages because I want my photos to be the hero of the story, but
if you love to add heaps of embellishments and journal pages and pages that all fantastic too. PL life is all about what your style is. Mine just happens to be Print them out, Slip them in and Go!!

One Sheet Wonder Christmas Special - Holly Berry Happiness

Finally after many years of going to do it, I did it! Yep I finally got around to making up a bunch of One Sheet Wonder cards and to make them even more awesome, I used all new goodies from the upcoming Holiday Catalogue too.

As you can see I actually ended up making 8 cards and I do still have a few scraps of paper left over. It's really amazing what you can do with one sheet of 12"x12" DSP and a few sheets of cardstock.

I used a piece of DSP from the new Christmas paper called Candy Cane Lane and paired that up with the stamps from our new set called Holly Berry Happiness. The colours in the paper are Real Red, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Whisper White. I also incorporated red and gold glimmer cardstock and a few of the new twines and embellishments from the Holiday catalogue.

Ok so I'm warning you in advance that this is about to get pretty picture heavy and your wishlist is about to grow!!

Phew and there we have them. I don't actually think I can pick a favorite because every time I finished a pair, they then become my best ones.

I pretty much kept the basic layout of each pair of cards the same and just changed them up by using the reverse side of the DSP and swapping between Real Red, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso cardstock.

Here is a copy of my one sheet wonder instruction sheet. Sorry it's a little rough, but I just wote it up as I made them. Hopefully you get the idea!!

I thought you might like a closer looks at a some of the cute little trinkets and twine we have in the new catalogue.

On this card you can see our little bell trinket. This is from Christmas Trinkets and the set comes with two other designs, a gingerbread man and a holly leaf. You get 8 of each, 24 in total.
It's a bit hard to see in this photo, but I have also added a touch of red metallic thread to my doily. The thread comes in both red and green and is just as beautiful as our other metallic threads.

On this next card I have used some of new, red foil and white bakers twine and then attached a few little jingly bells to the end. You can just see the bells in the top right corner above the holly branch. I was so excited to see the bells in the catty, as I think they are such a beautiful finishing touch. They come in silver and matte red and there are 60 in a pot. Oh, yes they do tinkle!!

I'm absolutely over the moon to have finally got my first One Sheet Wonder under my belt and I'm pretty sure I'll be having another go at it again very soon. I'm also super excited that I now have 8 more Christmas cards to put in my "To Go" pile and I love the sentiment in this new stamp set. All my family lives overseas, so I was thrilled to see an 'Across the Miles' sentiment this year. I'm pretty sure it's going to get a lot of mileage!!
