Floral Phrases - 50th Birthday Double Display card

So one of my dearest friends is turning 50 this week and I of course wanted to make her something special.

Now this friend is also a fellow Stampin' Up! demo so when I said I had to make something special I mean REALLY special. Something we've not seen or made before, and gosh that was a task and a half.

I decided to turn to my good friend google and looked through, what felt like a thousand fancy fold images, until I found one that was stunning and looked very tricky, which of course meant it would be perfect. The card is called a Double Display Card and I found the tutorial over at the The Craft Spa. Amanda's Double Display cards are absolutely beautiful and I knew it was perfect for my card.

And here is my Double Display Card:

The card really came out absolutely stunning and I am so thankful for Amanda's super easy instructions. It also stands beautifully and it really is just gorgeous.

Now my darling friend loves blue and you would swear that the Floral Boutique suite was made just for her. So it was a no brainer that this would be what I would be using. I of course had to add a big shiny 50th to the front and I love the sentiment from the Number of Year's so that went on the inside.

The hardest part of this card was choosing which pieces of the beautiful Floral Boutique paper to use.

I used the flower from the Floral Phrases stamp set as my background for all my sentiments. I stamped it off three times in total before stamping it on my cardstock. That way it allowed me to use Night of Navy ink for everything, as I really didn't want to add another colour.

So after such a stunning card I then had to come up with a beautiful gift to match it!!

Now a little while ago I had made myself a pretty frame using a Stampin' Up! vinyl that I've had for a while and added some flowers made from the Pop of Pink DSP and the Botanical Builders Framelits. You can see that one HERE. Well my friend saw this and loved it. It also just so happened that I had one more vinyl logo left:

Wow this was super hard to photograph!! So, I brought a 12x12 frame from my local Big W and transferred the vinyl to the front of the glass. That's the only part of this frame which is permanent.

I think I used each design from the Floral Boutique DSP to make the flowers, with a little added Silver Glimmer for a bit of pop. I slipped one full sheet of DSP into the back of the frame.

Because the flowers are attached to the glass with glue dots, they can easily be removed and swapped out for different papers. The same goes for the larger piece in the back. The whole frame is a bit like living art!!

Needless to say, I gave this to my gorgeous friend and she loved it!! She was so touched with all the work that had gone in to it, which of course I knew she would. Only a fellow crafter would understand and recognize the work and effort.

Happy Crafting,
Chlo

Hooray for Birthday Week: Day 7 - Botanical Builder

Yippeee, we made it to day 7 and today is my Birthday!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so much for all the blog love that you guys have shown me this week. It's made this week extra special!!

Today's card I actually made for myself. Now I know this sounds a little weird, because who actually make's cards for themselves, but it all started after a conversation I had with the hubby the other day.

We were in the car talking about my birthday coming up, when I suddenly couldn't work out how old I was going to be. After doing some very poor maths, I suddenly realised that I had told everybody I had turned 35 last year, when in fact I'm 35 this year?!?!? And so I had to make a card using this sentiment:

Of course if I am making a card for myself I'm going to use all my favorite colours too and so I picked out all the beautiful mints and aquas in our ink collections.

I was really pleased with how I got the two tone look on my numbers. I had tried inking straight from the pads, but the look was way too heavy and wet, so I decided to get out my trusty finger daubers and I sponged the colours directly onto the numbers and then stamped them.

Wow, that's it! a whole week of Birthday cards all finished and are now waiting for their new owner. Who is that lucky person who gets to keep all these cards, I hear you say. Well it honestly could be YOU!!

There is still time to enter my Birthday Giveaway and earn yourself some freebies to boot. Place a $90 (plus postage) order using my hostess code: QDBFNAE6 and you will go into the draw to win all 7 cards that I have blogged this week, plus because it is still Sale-a-Bration, you order entitles you to an item from the sale-a-bration catalogue. Also, to celebrate my birthday I'm sending out a little extra something from the Occasions Catalogue to you as a little gift.

But don't wait too long to place you order as this special is only on until tonight!! So be quick guys and get shopping!!

Happy Crafting,

Hooray for Birthday Week - Day 4:

I just can't believe we are now half way through my Birthday Week, but it really has been heaps of fun!! I've pretty much eaten out every day this week as well as being completely pampered by all the family. Here I am with Hubby and the In-laws out at our local garden centre, enjoying a yummy lunch.

Honestly having a weeks holiday, followed by a four day weekend during ones birthday is totally fantastic!!

Anyway back to the card making.

For day 4, I am sharing a card using the gorgeous Botanical Builder framelits and matching stamp sets:

I have to admit, when I first saw this in the Occasions catalogue, it didn't really do much for me, but then of course it started appearing on Pinterest and then, well, it fell into my very next order.

I absolutely love the matching DSP in this range (And did you know, you get the paper, stamp set and framelits in a bundle?? I didn't and I thought I had ordered the paper as an extra!) But it didn't really match the colours I was planning on using, so I decided to replicate the paper, using the same stamps but in the colours I wanted.

The best framelit in my opinion has to be the flower that cuts out the middle of the petals too. It allows you to curl them up and add more dimension. I honestly just love it!

Well that's it for today.  Oh but don't forget that during my birthday week, every order of $90* placed, either through me or my online store, using the Hostess Code: QDBFNAE6, will not only get to choose a Sale-a-Bration Freebie, but will also get a Birthday present from me!!  And you will go into the draw to win all the seven cards that I will be show casing this week!!

Happy Crafting!!
