Just Add Ink #570 - Hats Off

 Ok so I know with lockdown, it's tricky to keep track of the days, but seriously how did Fathers day sneak up on us? And also, while I'm thinking about it, September!!

So while I found a present at the petrol station (he loves chocolate so it's all good!) I realised I was going to need to make a card for the kids. Now I could get them to make the card, but I've only just cleaned up my craft room and didn't feel like letting those hooligans in there.

Also, I saw the perfect colour challenge happening over at Just Add Ink and so I decided to run with that.

Coastal Cabana is my all time favourite SU colour (alongside Crumb Cake obviously) so I knew this challenge would be perfect.

 

So, I finally got to play with the Hat's Off bundle which is awesome. Great set for boys, young and old and perfect for my fathers day card.

It's a it tricky to see, but the blueish strip on top of the lack strip is actually a piece of rushed silver cardstock, which is in the holiday catalogue. It's shinier in real life but hard to capture in a photo. I find it hard to create mens cards without all the sparkly so using some foil cardstock is a good alternative.

Right, time to get this card written up and wrap the chocolate. At least I didn't eat it before he gets it this year.

It takes a Great Guy - A Good Man

With Father's Day just around the corner, I thought I would make another card with the stamp set called A Good Guy. All week I have been sharing cards with this set, because I know how hard man's cards can be, but this stamp set has really inspired me, which is so not the norm, I thought I would run with it.

This card is another quick and simple, where yet again the Blends are the stand out feature. I often get asked how tricky are they to use and I think with this stamp set in particular, they really are easy. In fact, to prove how easy they are I have done a video tutorial for this card, so you can see for yourself, in real time, how easy they are to use.

Oh and as always, here are the card measurements for this particular card:

Base: 11 1/2" x 4"
Basic Gray: 5 1/2" x 3 3/4"
Basic Gray: 5 3/8" x 3 5/8"
Old Olive: 1 1/2" x 5 3/8"

Time for reflection - High Tide

Do you like to try different techniques? There are just so many out there and so many that I always think "I would love to try that out" and then quite often don't or just forget about. But today I'm sharing a technique that has been around for ages, and that is the Reflection Technique.

It took me a while to decide which stamp set I was going to use and I thought what sort of things do you usually see a reflection of and then I suddenly thought the Lighthouse from High Tide would be perfect and that's exactly what I used:

Now I created my reflection by using the plastic sheet that comes with the Stamp-a-ma-jig and the trick is to stamp your image on the smooth side and not the grainy side. But any clear, smooth plastic will work. Our window sheets would also be great for this.

The technique it self is easy. You stamp your image, the lighthouse in my case, onto your card and remember to leave some space below it for it's reflection. Next re-ink your stamp and stamp that onto your shiny plastic sheet. turn the sheet upside down and place it below the real image and press down hard... Voila!!

I dressed the rest of the "scene" with more images from the set and then had to pick a sentiment. That, I think, was the hardest part. I just love all of those sayings in this stamp set. I think I'll keep this card for Hubby for fathers day which isn't too far off. I love being ahead of the game!!
